Scents can be so nostalgic, comforting, and just simple reminders of the things and people we love. As I started becoming more health-conscious, I wanted to apply what I have been learning to other aspects of my life (other than the foods I was consuming). So, I turned my attention to the candles I was purchasing and decided to peek at the labels one day. After going through them I noticed that the majority of them were paraffin wax candles so I dug a little deeper and discovered that paraffin wax was not the best for us to be inhaling. I read that paraffin did indeed hold fragrance well, which is why I assume many companies prefer to use it. I mean, what’s a candle without a good throw?
With days and nights engulfed in research, I learned that coconut wax was natural, clean-burning, and held fragrance well. Beeswax also has many great benefits, as it is also clean-burning, and cleans the air! Can you believe it? I thought to myself, “I need both!”
Testing different amounts of coconut wax to beeswax (ethically sourced of course) I created the perfect coconut wax to beeswax ratio and my “CoCo-Beeswax” was born. Not only that, Loca Candle was born! Adding phthalate-free fragrance oils to my wax, I produced candles that were safe for my friends and family to bask in without jeopardizing their health. I am thrilled about that and elated to share it with the rest of you.
